Why Tibet?
We believe that #TibetMatters
Tibet is more than a place on a map. It is a homeland with a distinct history, language, culture, religion, and identity. Following Chinas annexation and incorporation of Tibet into the Peoples Republic of China, Tibetans have faced profound changes to their political, cultural, and religious life. Tibet also matters to the world because its glaciers, rivers, and fragile Himalayan ecosystem affect millions of people far beyond the Tibetan Plateau.
The Dalai Lama remains a central spiritual figure for Tibetans and a global symbol of compassion, peace, and Tibetan identity. For Tibetans, he represents continuity, faith, and their connection to their homeland and traditions. Tibet matters because the future of Tibet concerns not only the survival of a unique civilisation, but also the preservation of Tibetan culture and religion, protection of the Himalayan environment, and the rights and aspirations of the Tibetan people.
