Genkhang Rigzin Choedon has been appointed as the new Representative of the Tibetan Office in Brussels.

 

Brussels: Ms. Genkhang Rigzin Choedon, who was recently appointed as the new representative for the Office of Tibet in Brussels, officially took over from Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, the previous representative.

On the 19th of May 2022, a small handover ceremony was held at the Office of Tibet in Brussels. Mr. Chhimey Rigzin, Representative of the Office of Tibet in Geneva, was present as an official witness during the ceremony. Mr. Namgyal Samdup, Secretary, Bureau du Tibet, Paris, was also there to pass over responsibility for that office.

Guests at the ceremony included the president of the Tibetan Community, representatives from the various Tibetan associations as well as the staff members of the Office of Tibet, Brussels.

Ms. Genkhang Rigzin Choedon, the new representative, formerly worked for more than 12 years in the Office of Tibet in Brussels. Following the retirement of Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, who has dedicatedly served the Tibetan community for 42 years since 1977, she formally began office on May 16, 2022. He has worked for CTA in numerous roles, including as the Dalai Lama's Representative in South Africa from 1997 to 2001.

From 2001 to 2005, he was the Representative for the Office of Tibet in Brussels and Paris, from 2010 to 2012, he was the Chief Representative of the Southern Tibetan Settlements in Bangalore, and on February 8, 2013, he became the Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations in Dharamsala. Serving as a representative of the Office of Tibet in Brussels from 2016 to 2022.
