His Holiness the Dalai Lama Earned Every Right to Be Awarded Bharat Ratna, Says Shashi Tharoor

One of the most flamboyant Indian political figures, Shashi Tharoor has joined the list of public figures demanding Bharat Ratna for Dalai Lama. Former Indian international diplomat Shashi Tharoor has come in support of the campaign calling for India’s highest civilian honor to be awarded to Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor in a video statement shares his opinion on why the Dalai Lama should be conferred with Bharat Ratna. He introduces the audience that he has known the Tibetan spiritual leader over the last forty years and he has remained fascinated by his extraordinary spiritual wisdom, compassion, and rather jolly sense of humor. He stresses that he speaks to you from the heart.

He added that he strongly endorses the campaign calling for the conferring of the Bharat Ratna on the Dalai Lama. He also called for a policy to confer the Bharat Ratna on every Indian who wins the Nobel Prize.

Dr. Tharoor further acknowledged that although the Dalai Lama is not an Indian citizen by the passport he holds, given the circumstances of living in India for the past more than sixty years, extraordinary contribution on the soil to the soul of India, he has earned every right of an Indian citizen.

Apart from Shashi Tharoor, prominent Indian political figures like Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, BJP MP Kishan Kapoor, Former MP Kushok Thiksay from Ladakh and many more are demanding for the honor to be bestowed upon His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

A group of followers from India has launched a campaign that collects support from Indians in their appeal to the government of India to confer Bharat Ratna on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The campaign says that they believe that Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, is an icon of all that is good in the world, and strives every day to reinforce the human values that can make sentient beings happy. Values of brotherhood, ahimsa, karuna and compassion, kindness and forgiveness.
